A flashback to 10+ years ago...

This weekend, we finished what my parents helped me start when they were here the weekend before, which was cleaning out our garage, storage closet, and guest bedroom closet.

I am a minimalist... sometimes to a fault. To a fault because I rarely save things, even sentimental things. I don't like having "stuff"if I don't have a place for it.

So I'm thankful that Matt is the sentimental saver of the two of us, because when I was going through bins that his parents gave us from their house when they moved, I came across a box of momentos that he had saved from high school and college. It was filled with notes that I had written him (bubble letters, different colored markers, cool folds and all) and hilarious pictures of us from back in the day. Here are a few of our finds that had us cracking up and reminiscing over the weekend.

While Matt was playing golf, I found one of his baseball hats with a note that one of the bat girls wrote on the bottom. So, being the mature wife that I am, I took a picture of it and then gave it to Tally and sent the pics to Matt. :)
This was one of the first pictures we took together at a church lock in. :)

How about that hair?! Sexy.

This picture makes me laugh. This was the first meal we cooked together our junior year of HS. I guess Matt's mom snuck this pic. Our expressions are classic.

I took pictures of our meals even back then- I was meant to be a food blogger ;)

Oh black choker- I'm pretty sure those were never in, but I apparently rocked one

Man, I should have taken a pic of the note I wrote on the back of this pic- Matt carried this in his wallet in HS- haha... oh the days.
One of many notes we found- it actually made me realize I should do this more... maybe without the squigglies and designs.

It wasn't a note without some nice bubble letters on the front. ;)

ahhh yes, back to reality this cold, rainy, Monday morning. Hope y'all have a great week!

#nelsendays2014 Week 10

Day 64: I was just unloading groceries, but Tally thought we were going on a trip. #dogaftermyownheart

Day 65: Watched this sweet little nugget while his mama and daddy had a date night! It definitely got me excited for future nights in with our own little babe. :)

Day 66: Evening stroll through Chastain Park the night before Matt left for Utah

...and the way Tally rode the short distance to the park #notsafe #donttrythisathome

Day 67: Girls' day and night with my mom and sister!

Day 68: Can you find the common theme between all of these pictures? :)

Day 69: I took my parents to our favorite hiking spot along the Chattahoochee. And then we enjoyed a post-hike cocktail hour back at the house... my drink's on the right of course. ;)

Day 70: Mom and Charles' first trip to Ikea, a walk around Chastain park, and a pic of my favorite tree in full bloom in our front yard

Happy Friday!!!

Open-faced breakfast sandwich

When you're pregnant, you're supposed to increase your daily intake of protein. For a girl who basically eats dairy and carbs all day everyday, increasing protein takes planning and creativity (i.e., sneak protein into my dairy/carb-loaded meals).

This breakfast sandwich is one of my faves. It is so yummy, keeps me full for most of the day, and still has my dairy and carbs in there to "hide" the protein. ;)

What you need:
1 bagel (I prefer Thomas's Everything, Regular, or Whole Wheat)
2 eggs (I use Publix Greenwise large brown eggs)
2 slices of turkey bacon (I use Oscar Meyer's)
2 slices of deli havarti cheese (the girl who loves her cheese will tell you pre-packaged havarti is just not the same!)
salt and peper to taste
ketchup and fresh parsley for dipping and prettiness. ;)

Directions:
Whisk eggs in a bowl with salt and pepper. Cook to your liking (I prefer scrambled or fried for a sandwich). In a separate pan, cook turkey bacon until crispy. When finished, place turkey bacon in between two paper towels to remove excess grease, and tear each piece in half. Toast bagel. Layer turkey bacon on each half of the bagel, then add eggs and top with a slice of cheese on each side. Melt in the microwave for 30 seconds. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve with ketchup for dipping.

Ten on the 10th: 10 before Baby

To-do lists stress some people out, but I happen to LOVE them. Or maybe it's the checking things off of the lists that I love. And this list will be especially fun to check off.

Countdown to baby Nelsen is on...

Ten before Baby:
  1. Replace carpet in master bedroom with new carpet or hardwoods (gotta love surprises caused by a puppy and a blue ink pen).
  2. Purchase bedroom furniture for master bedroom.
  3. Move painted dressers from our room to the nursery.
  4. Set up crib and window seat.
  5. Upholster rocking chair, window seat, bumper and crib skirt.
  6. Cover pillows for window seat and rocker, and find two gray pillows for window seat.
  7. Wash, fold, and hang baby clothes.
  8. Fill out baby book with pre-baby entries.
  9. Have a picture taken with my pregnant self, Matt, and Tally.
  10. Go on our babymoon!
More to come on numbers 1, 2, 5, and 10.

I can’t wait to share the plan for the nursery and, more than that, the sex of the baby!

Want to join me for Ten on the 10th? Find out how here.

Have a great week!

#nelsendays2014 Week 9

Day 57: We're down to these two for our bedroom! We really wanted to see them in person before we made a purchase, so we found a furniture store that has them in stock and are going to look at them this weekend. Well, actually, Matt will be out of town, but my mama is going to come and weigh in with a fair and unbiased opinion. Even though I REALLY like the top one. :)

Day 58: Dinner with friends from church! I made Honey Lime Chicken Enchiladas with Corn Salsa on the side and individual baked S'mores for dessert- recipes to come!

Day 59: Hot date ;)
Day 60: Spent the afternoon with my step-dad as he celebrated his first day of retirement!

Day 61: Birthday celebration for K & J!

Day 62: One of many of reasons why baby Nelsen will be a great addition to our little fam: we'll be slightly less obsessed with our dog.

Day 63: 20 Weeks!

We have our 20 week appointment today! I'm taking a half-day today and then a personal day Monday- woo-hoo for a long weekend!

Matt leaves to go skiing tomorrow (after last year's embarrassing debacle, we decided I probably shouldn't go for the babe's sake ;) ), so I set up a little girls' night sleepover at our place with my mom and sis for Saturday. Then my stepdad is coming to join my mom Sunday and Monday and we're going to set up the nursery! It will be a little while before the upholostered items are ready, but we're going to get the crib and window set up and in place. Quite exciting stuff! :)

Happy Friday, friends!
