Weekend Recap- We ventured out! TWICE!

I'm reading over that post title and laughing to myself- oh how things change with a little one. ;)

Ryan turned three weeks old yesterday! He has been such an angel baby. And because he's been so sweet and fairly predictable with eating and sleeping, we decided to take the whole family out to dinner Friday night, and then go for a hike Saturday. We figured the sooner we started taking little "risks" and getting out, the more likely we'd be to keep them up.

So Friday night, we packed up the little guy and the big pup (and both of their diaper bags, haha) and drove over to an outdoor eating spot called Newk's.

Both "kids" were great! ;) Matt and I even had a glass of wine with our meal. Fancy fancy!

I had pumped a bottle just in case we were out at a feed time, and Matt ended up feeding him at the table after we ate! Such a pro he is. ;)

We thought about going to Menchie's for yogurt afterward, but decided not to push our luck. ;)

So we went home and crashed instead.

On Saturday, we ventured out to one of our favorite hike spots and put the BabyBjorn to use for the first time.

I actually youtubed how to use the thing on the drive over. It's supposed to be one-person operational (and will be once we're professionals ;)), but that first try involved Matt and I both standing outside the car strapping Ryan in tightly while Tally wandered off to start the hike on his own. Definitely a new-parent scene.

But once we got him settled in, he was good to go for the entire hike! We count each one of these successful little adventures as blessings and bonuses to the sweet baby he's been and know that a different outcome could happen at any turn. But we'd rather get out and give it a go while he's pretty easy and mobile than stay inside where it's melt-down safe. ;) And Tally sure was happy we did!

Ryan's other weekend adventures involved snuggling with Papa before he and my mom left on Friday, working on some tummy time. and staring at our kitchen lights in between naps. ;)

  1. Good for y'all! Getting out with a little one can be daunting at first, but the more you do it, the easier it gets. I still remember the first time we took our oldest out. It was a few days after we were discharged from the hospital, and he had a doctor appointment. And we forgot the diaper bag at home!

  2. Y'all are doing about a million times better than I was with my daughter at that stage. I'm not even sure I knew I was in the world at that point because I was still so medicated from the c-section. It looks like y'all are pros at this parenting thing now! :)

  3. Glad y'all survived two days out in a row! You'll look back on this with the next kids and laugh, I'm sure.

  4. You are doing so much better than I did with Big E, I will always remember the first trip to the shops to try and get some 'between maternity and normal clothes' clothes when he was a week old and, even though the shops were 5 mins away, it took an hour to get out the door and about 10 mins after arriving he had an explosive nappy that went over everything. We then left and I cried and didn't venture out again for a good couple of weeks!!
