Ryan Matthew - 2 1/2

Our big boy recently turned 2 1/2.

Words that come to mind when I think about him are sweet, funny, thoughtful and sensitive.

I am constantly amazed by his awareness and consideration of other people, especially his sister.

He is such a processor. If something you say doesn't make sense, he will be quick to ask you a follow-up question that usually starts with, "but" with an emphasized "T."

If he overhears Matt and I are talking about our days and he doesn't understand something one of us says, he will say, "What did you say, Daddy?" to join in on the conversation.

He got a double dose of strong-willedness from his mama and his daddy and is not shy about offering up his reasons about why he should or should not do something.

His love language is quality time- reading, cooking, playing toys, exploring, doing puzzles, or watching a show together are some of his favorite activities.

Recently, he has started sending himself to time-out if he does something he knows he's not supposed to do. I had to refrain hard from laughing the first time it happened. And maybe it's his quality-time nature, but sometimes sitting quietly with him in time out is the most effective way to bring him back to a positive place for playing.

He's pretty self-aware, and when he's having an emotional or extra-sensitive day, he'll say (usually through tears), "I'm just havin' a tough time." Sweet love.

He is such a protector of Natalie. Just yesterday there was a little boy who crawled up to her at music class, and Ryan very quickly crawled right in between the two of them.

He is quick to tell me if he thinks Natalie is crawling too close to the stairs (sometimes when she's not even to the door of her bedroom), when she's reaching for something too small for her mouth (whether it actually is or not), and will let me know when we need to use a whisper voice when she has fallen asleep in the car.

He loves his milk & stories time before nap and bed. Just a few weeks ago, we had friends over for a playdate, and around 12:15 (he usually naps at 1:00), he started requesting milk & stories and telling our friends, "bye," and "thanks for coming." If only we could be so straight-forward as adults.

I know it's only a few days a week, but I'm trying hard to soak up these remaining months before he starts preschool in the Fall. Somehow I feel like time is going to move by even faster when we have real schedules to keep up with.

Watching him grow over these past 2.5 years has brought us so much joy. We are so proud to be his parents and cannot wait to see where The Lord takes him!

A big thank you to Megan Wallach for taking these sweet pictures for our family!

Friday Favorites + I'm Guest Blogging today!

It's almost the weekend!! And in case you haven't heard, us Atlanta people have a big game to cheer for on Sunday. And while Matt and I follow college football more closely than the NFL, we will absolutely be watching every bit of the Falcons play in the Super Bowl on Sunday! Our city needs a championship. It's just time.

Today, I am so excited to be a guest blogger on Samantha Elizabeth. She titled my post "Balancing It All" but I don't think I'd give myself that much credit. ;) I would love for y'all to swing by her space and check out her blog along with my post!

Today, I am also joining Erika, Andrea and Narci to share my Friday Favorites. They are random, and some are very pregnancy-inspired, but here goes:

1.
Dasani Black Cherry Water

This is my new favorite fancy water. When you're pregnant, it's nice to switch things up with some fancy water on occasion. And this one is GOOD.

2.
Chocolate Trinity Ice Cream

Oh Chocolate Trinity. If I ate this out of the carton, it might not make it past one sitting. When I'm not pregnant, I'm not a huge chocolate fan, but when I am, gimme gimme all the chocolate. And this ice cream in particular is ridiculously good. If only Matt liked chocolate and ate this with me so that I could be less aware of how often I'm replacing the carton for just myself to enjoy. But I don't even care. It's just so good.

3.
Publix Chocolate Lover's Delight Cake
While we're on the topic, I've posted about this cake before (the last time I was pregnant), and it just needs to be mentioned again. Gah it's good. Find yourself an excuse to spend $20 on chocolate cake, and you will quickly forget it was $20 when you take the first bite. Mmmmm.

4.
Frozen Grapes
Because this happens to be the thing I crave most when I'm showing self control and taking a night off of ice cream. If you've never frozen grapes before, I'm not sure you'll ever want to eat them the regular way again! Ryan and I love this little treat. They're like mini popsicle bites. So tasty and refreshing!

5.
Prenatal Pilates Video

I'm really liking this pilates video on YouTube. It's always nice to workout with a pregnant instructor so I know that what they're telling me to do is safe for me during pregnancy. And this girl is just normal- not too bubbly or chatty or drill-sergeant-ish. I love normal in a YouTube workout video.

6.
Burt's Bees Baby Shampoo & Wash
I recently bought this for the first time and I LOVE it! The scent is my favorite. I've always loved my Mustela and Noodle & Boo, but this little product might be my new favorite.

7.
Not Your Mother's Double Take Dry Finish Texture Spray
I've posted about their dry shampoo before, but I recently tried this Texture Spray as a hairspray and I love it! I love the smell, the hold, and the feel of it in my hair- not sticky at all.

8.
Favorite Earrings & Shoes
If you missed my post from earlier this week about my new favorite earrings and shoes, you can check it out here.

Have a great weekend, friends!
And don't forget to check out my post on Samantha Elizabeth today!

February Goals

It's Natalie's birthday month!!

Somebody hold me while I cry. I cannot believe our sweet girl will be ONE on the 17th! It feels like we just had her, but maybe that has something to do with me being pregnant again?! We can't wait to celebrate her later this month and I can't wait to write her one year recap post and reminisce on all of the memories we've experienced with her in the past year. She is just too much fun.

Okay, so if you recall, I dove in hard to January and was super gung-ho about accomplishing a LOT to start off the new year. I'm happy to say most of it got done too. Here's a recap of January's goals:

1.
Plan Natalie's 1st Birthday Party

Thanks to Cupcake Express for making these adorable invitations for us! And thanks to my mom for cutting out a bagillion decorations with me during nap one day and then taking the rest home to finish. BLESS! We've got the food planned and have her little outfit ready (thanks to her cousin Riley for handing down the most adorable 1st birthday outfit ever), so the decorations and food prep that is left will be a part of this month's goals.

2.
Create 2017 Photo Calendar and Photo Books
Photo Books:
Natalie's first year
Natalie's newborn pics
Natalie's birth story
2016- Our Year in Review

Remember when I said I should probably stop with 2 goals since my second one involved making a calendar and 4 photo books? Yeah. Well, I made the calendar and 2.5 of the photo books, (and was also able to make a calendar for Matt's office as a little New Year's surprise for him), but still need to finish our 2016 book and Natalie's first year book this month.

If you haven't tried Shutterfly books before, you should definitely give them a try! They send out coupons for free (yes FREE!) 8x8 books often, which is the size I always make. You can check them out here if you're interested!

3.
Begin Planning Our Family Vacation

We put a lot of thinking into this this month and have 4 very different options on the table, but still haven't settled on our place quite yet. Being that our trip will be in April, we'll get something booked this month. Hey, we booked our trip to Maine pretty last-minute last year and ended up with a good deal because of it, so maybe we'll have the same luck this year. :)

4.
Share 3 New Recipes

5.
Workout 3x's/week during nap

It felt so good to be back into a workout routine again! I definitely want to keep this up next month as well. I found a new pilates leg and butt toner workout here, a new prenatal pilates workout that I really like here, and my sister gave me the T25 workouts to try, so I'll be giving those a go next month.

6.
Finalize Living Room Furniture

We ordered living room furniture!!! We can't wait for it to arrive sometime in the next month or so. It's funny though because after all this time and decision making, I told Matt last night that I'll kind of miss our wide-open play room living room. It's funny how you get used to things and don't want to change them up... even when they look borderline ridiculous. ;)

I also ended up reading a new book on discipline this past month that I really enjoyed. I'll be sharing a full review of it next week, but you can check out the description here. It was SO good and gave great perspective on the current stage of life we've entered into with our little man who's growing up so fast!

Okay, now onto February:

1.
Finish 2016 Photo Book & Natalie's One Year Book

2.
Make & Order Natalie's One Year Signs
For Ryan's first birthday, I made two signs and ordered one and want to do the same for Natalie.

3.
Workout 3x's/week during nap
I want to try the T25 workouts my sister gave me and keep up with the other YouTube workouts I've found and enjoy. These workouts are never long (some days they're as short as 10 minutes!), but that little bit of time reenergizes me and has been a definite positive change for me this past month.

4.
Share 3 New Recipes
This month, I want to share recipes for:
Homemade Meatballs
Taco Bowls
Chicken Enchiladas

5.
Read All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
I joined a book club this month and this is the next book on the list for March's meeting, so I'm looking forward to reading it and getting together to talk about it next month. It has over 26,000 reviews and 4.5 stars on Amazon, so I'm pretty excited about reading it!

6.
Disconnect Cable
Okay. Here goes nothing. I knew if I didn't make this a written-down goal, I wouldn't do it. Matt and I have been talking about getting rid of cable (taking the plunge, as we call it) for a long time now since we pay so darn much for what little TV we watch. So a couple of months ago, I ordered two antennas and have everything we need to go the no-cable-bill route, but just haven't done it yet. So this month, it's go time. We're doing it. I'll let you know how we fair on the other side.
