August's Mid-Month Confessions

Hello there friends! It's the middle of another month- one month closer to Fall I might add- so Elizabeth and I are linking up to share our confessions with you! You can check out Elizabeth's confessions here and feel free to share your own in the comment section below. :)

And speaking of Elizabeth, she just released her first ebook called Maternity Leave 101: A Free e-Course for the Pregnant Teacher. You can it out here!
1.
As I was dressing Natalie one morning, I was thinking how much tiny buttons in the back of baby clothes are a pain- they're so much easier to button when they're in the front. So later that day, I was trying to figure out how Natalie got an ink mark (that almost looked like a stamp) on the top, front part of her shirt. Turns out as I looked closer that it was the tag that's printed on the clothes, which meant I had put her shirt on backwards and those tiny buttons were made for the front after all. But the best part of all of this is that I did the same thing with the exact same shirt two weeks later and didn't notice it (again) until we were out and about for the day. Sweet thing- fashion is not her mama's strength. :)

2.
Sometimes I feel like I could pass out myself when I get Ryan and Natalie down for nap or bed, but then I can't help but stare at their little sleeping selves and wish I could go right back in and crawl in their cribs and snuggle.

3.
Earlier this week, Ryan had to nap in our bed while his room was being painted. It was the first time he had slept outside of a crib or pack 'n play, so I wanted to make sure he felt comfortable and would do okay in a big bed. Well I guess I read one too many stories and attempted to sing one too many songs because the sweet buddy looked at me and said, "Mommy, I just want to close my eyes." --Right. Got it. No need to continue then.

4.
When Ryan was first talking, he would say "oopie daisy" when he dropped something. So we adopted the phrase and still say it when we're with him and something falls. So last week, when I was at Bed, Bath and Beyond (it's worth mentioning I was at the store by myself- no kids in tow), a worker was helping me find a wedding gift and accidentally dropped a box from the top shelf. And as it hit the floor I said kind of loudly, "Oopie daisy!" and then just didn't even know how to explain it so I just let it sit like it was a completely normal thing to say.

That's it for this month! Feel free to share your own confessions below and don't forget to check out Elizabeth's here!

Black Bean Burritos

If you're looking for a tasty, easy, Mexican meal, look no further! We have been making these for years in our house and love, love, love them!

Ingredients:
1 large sweet onion, julienne
1T olive oil or butter
1- 15oz can black beans, drained and rinsed
1- 14.5oz can petite cut diced tomatoes with green chilies
1- 15.25oz can sweet yellow corn, drained
cheddar cheese, shredded
green onion, diced
sour cream

Directions:
Saute onion in olive oil until clear (5-7 minutes). Add tomatoes, black beans and corn. Simmer for 3 more minutes, or until most of the tomato juice is absorbed. Melt cheese on tortilla. Spoon out burrito filling and garnish with green onion, sour cream, and any of your other favorite burrito toppings (queso, salsa, hot sauce, etc.).

Ryan's 2nd Birthday Party at PDK Airport

Last weekend, we celebrated our Big Boy turning TWO!

We held his party at the Peachtree-DeKalb Airport Park, where they have a playground, grassy area for the kids to run around, and airplanes flying in and taking off right near the play area.

Playgrounds and airplanes- it's basically a slice of heaven for a little boy. :)

I was SO thankful to Matt and our families for helping it come together as I came down with a 24 hour virus the day before and was basically laid up in bed all day! The timing was just crazy as I haven't been sick like that in over 6 years! But we made it through and the party went off without a hitch.

Well, mostly...

Sweet buddy- less than two minutes after we arrived, he slipped in the  water puddle and laid out flat on his stomach...

And then the same thing happened again right before he opened his presents, but this time to the back of his outfit. Poor guy- he wasn't upset though!

Here are some pictures from the rest of the day:

Ryan was really excited to be sitting next to his best girl, "Teegie" :)

Natalie Grace- 5 Months

Our sweet girl turned 5 months on our trip!

She is, not surprisingly, the best little traveler. We have been oh-so-spoiled by her go-with-the-flow personality and love of people and sleep. She is our little Sweat Pea!

This has been a big month of change for The Little Miss. Her personality is really starting to show! She has started making the cutest little raspberry sounds with her mouth and loves when you make them back at her. She gets so excited when you smile at her and usually makes a quick, jerky movement with her whole body with a wide-open smile to show her excitement. We love how she'll often shove a fist in her mouth after giving that wide open smile- it is so funny!

Her other big milestones from this past month include rolling over both ways and sitting in her Bumbo chair!

She's also become very interested in Tally this month and loves to watch him when she's playing on her play mat. And Tal loves being close to her just like he did when Ryan was a baby.

Ryan is still the sweetest big brother, and she LOVES giving him big smiles and cackle sounds. They are so cute together!

Matt and I have been taking turns putting her down at night and reading her stories, but Matt often likes to do it because he loves to read to her in her rocking chair before bed. The sweetest.

Here are a few of her other moments from the past month!

Those eyes

That cheek :)

Feeding and snuggles with Reynolds!
We crack up at her stink eye! She's got a good one.

Playing at Nonna and Papa's- Ryan wanted "Nanni" to play in the pillows too :)

One of the cutest things she did when she was trying to roll over was lift both of her legs up and drop them to one side, almost as if she was building momentum to get all the way over. Then she'd usually fall asleep on her side.

Wide open, fist-in-mouth smile :)

Snuggles with Mrs. Lynn and Ginna!

First plane ride before and after!

The day she turned 5 months on our trip
Wide eyes for the sunrise in Maine!

We love our sweet girl so much and can't wait to watch her continue to grow!
